John Nienhuis and the other Rep When John told me he wanted to shoot his Rep, I really wondered where I had gone wrong. After all, we had a pretty nice run of 14 years. As it turned out, he had always wanted to photograph a day-in-the-life type project at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, documenting a production. And he knew just who he wanted to feature: Jim Pickering, a long time leading man at The Rep. Now, I know John well enough that if he decides to do something, he'll do it. But spend his spare time shooting at The Rep? His eyes lit up as he explained his fascination with how a theater production comes together...the background research & preparation, choosing the perfect wardrobe, the transforming hair & make up, the hunt for the perfect prop and the precise placement of each light to set the mood for the scene. And the people...the camaraderie of the cast, the crew and the director; how everything seems to fall into place when they're working as a team. Even though they've all done this same thing a million times before, everyone is as excited as if it's the first time. They treat each production and each day as a special and unique event, because it is. Then I understood why he loves the theater ~ live theater is an extension of what John does every day. See some of the other scenes John shot at The Rep by taking a look at our featured project area. Check out his web site to see other recent work as well. And when you're ready for your own production ~ of the still photo genre ~ give us a call. Our team is waiting in the wings to shoot with you. What started out as a day-in-the-life project turned out to be a project of a lifetime, and an opportunity to make a great friendship with Jim Pickering. John's take on all of this?
